Horatio's Garden Appeal: Southern Spinal Injuries Trust

If you love gardening and would like to meet, listen to and learn from Britain’s leading experts, then don’t miss these six amazing opportunities at Yeo Valley’s Organic Garden Tea Room.

Sarah Raven, Alys Fowler, Toby Buckland, Bunny Guinness and Jekka McVicar have agreed to give talks and courses to help raise funds for SSIT and Horatio’s Garden, the planned rehabilitation garden at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre in Salisbury.

SSIT have put together a really exciting programme for you to enjoy. A tour of The Organic Garden with a member of the Garden Team will be included as part of the garden talks package, and you’ll have the chance to buy a selection of lovely things from Sarah Raven’s shop and books by the other speakers, as well as seeds and plants from The Organic Garden.

Full day Course 14 March 2012 – £95

This course is based on Sarah’s veg growing philosophy – don’t grow everything, but spend your precious time and use your precious space with the highly productive, long-season crops, which will give you delicious things to eat without taking over your life. Sarah will give her recommendations of what to grow and how best to do it, with successful time-saving techniques and successional sowing plans to give you year round veg.

Transforming your Garden
with Bunny Guinness

22 June 2012 – £75

If you don’t think you are making the most of your garden, but are not sure which way to go, this is the talk for you. Bunny Guinness, the innovative gold medal winning Landscape Architect, horticulturalist and author, will call upon her extensive experience designing gardens including those with a family-friendly brief to illustrate her inspirational designs and problems solved. Bunny will talk about the use of plants, colour, surface materials, water and buildings to dictate the mood of your garden.

The Cutting Garden

Full day Course 13 March 2012 – £95

If you’ve been thinking about creating a cutting patch, or just growing a few flowers to pick for the house, this course will show you how. Sarah will explain how to prepare, plant, maintain and harvest buckets of flowers from your own garden from March through to November. She will talk about spring planting and sowing of dahlias, bulbs, hardy and half-hardy annuals and sweet peas. You will learn the best sowing and growing techniques so you can achieve easy yet brilliant results.

Herbs: More Than Just A Garnish
with Jekka McVicar

Britain’s leading authority on herbs, Jekka McVicar set up her Organic Herb Farm 25 years ago and now grows more than 650 species of culinary, medicinal and aromatic herbs from around the world. She has won over 60 RHS Gold Medals including 14 at Chelsea Flower Show and has created herb gardens for Jamie Oliver (who calls her “the Queen of herbs”), Sheepdrove Organic Farm and Babington House. So who better to talk about the vast range of herbs that are available and how best to use them? In this illustrated talk you will learn how to use herbs in the kitchen, their medicinal properties and how to grow them in the garden.

Learn how to create your own year-round flower garden in this talk with Toby Buckland, the award-winning gardening expert and TV presenter. Toby will cover a range of designs, aspects and plant-types from a luscious twilight garden for evening scent to a nectar-filled border to attract wildlife, as well as addressing different soil types and aftercare.
