our organic gardens

Our organic gardens are one of Britain’s only gardens to be certified organic. They’re the work of Sarah Mead who has spent the last 18 years turning six and a half acres of land into a diverse, seasonal and absolutely beautiful patchwork of ornamental and edible planting areas.

Sarah and her team of gardeners have turned her vision into life, and the gardens are a constantly evolving project as everyone brings more ideas and experiments to the table.

We’ve only opened the gardens to the public in the last two years, and it’s been great to share some of the things we do with more people. Our visitors generally have a lovely time looking round, but they also take away some techniques that they can use at home. People always seem to be surprised that it’s actually really easy to do some things organically, but techniques like comfrey teas and compost rotation are just good common sense.

One of the best things about a visit to our organic gardens is our tea rooms, where you can enjoy a really good lunch or afternoon tea made with just-picked ingredients from our veg garden, and meat and dairy from our farms around the valley.

The gardens are open from 12 April until the end of September.
